Roman Kartsev (born Roman Katz; May 20, 1939 – October 2, 2018) was a very famous Russian actor and humorist. He was known for his funny performances on stage, in theaters, and in movies.

Roman Kartsev received special awards for his talent. He was named an Honored Artist of the RSFSR in 1990 and a People's Artist of the Russian Federation in 1999. These titles are like big honors for artists in Russia. He worked at the Moscow Theater of Miniatures. For many years, he performed in a popular comedy duo with Viktor Ilchenko. They were known as Kartsev and Ilchenko.

Early Life and Family

Roman Kartsev was born in the city of Odessa. At that time, Odessa was part of the Soviet Union. His parents were Sura-Lea Fuksman and Antshel Katz. Roman was named after his grandfather, who was a synagogue cantor. In his family, they spoke Yiddish.

Before World War II, Roman lived with his parents in Tiraspol. His father played football for a team there. During the war, Roman and his mother and brother moved to Omsk for safety. After the war ended in 1946, his family returned to Odessa.

Acting Career
