Ronaldo Caiado's Political Journey
Ronaldo Caiado has been involved in politics for a long time. He started by leading an organization called the União Democrática Ruralista from 1986 to 1989. This group worked to protect the interests of people who own land.
Early Political Steps
In 1989, Ronaldo Caiado ran for president of Brazil. He was part of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) at that time. He received a small percentage of the votes, which was 0.68%.
After that, he was elected as a federal deputy for Goiás in 1990. A federal deputy is like a representative who helps make laws for the country. In 1994, he tried to become the governor of Goiás, but he came in third place.
Serving in the National Government
Ronaldo Caiado was re-elected as a federal deputy several times. He served in this role in 1998, 2002, 2006, and 2010. This shows he was a consistent voice for his state in the national government.
In 2014, he was elected to a different important role: a Senator. Senators represent their states in the Senate, which is another part of Brazil's law-making body. He served as a Senator from February 1, 2015, until January 1, 2019. During this time, he was also the leader of his political party's group in the Senate.
Becoming Governor of Goiás
In October 2018, Ronaldo Caiado ran for governor of the state of Goiás again. This time, he was very successful. He won the election in the first round, receiving 1,773,185 votes. This was about 59.73% of all the valid votes. His running mate, who would become his vice-governor, was Lincoln Tejota.
He won against Daniel Vilela, who was from the Brazilian Democratic Movement (MDB) party. Ronaldo Caiado officially became the Governor of Goiás on January 1, 2019, and continues to serve in this role today.
