Rosa María Cid López was born on January 29, 1956, in Spain. She is a well-known academic and expert in history. She has spent her career studying the history of women and gender. She even served as the President of the Spanish Association Investigating the History of Women (Asociación Española de Investigación de Historia de las Mujeres).

Rosa María Cid López went to the University of Oviedo in Spain. In 1979, she earned a degree in Philosophy and Letters, focusing on History. Later, in 1986, she completed her PhD in Geography and History at the same university. Her PhD research was about "The cult to the emperor in Numidia of Diocletian". This means she studied how people worshipped emperors in an ancient Roman area called Numidia.

Her Work as a Professor

Since 2011, Rosa María Cid López has been a Professor of Ancient History at the University of Oviedo. She leads important groups there, like the Deméter Group. She also coordinates the Motherhood, Gender and Family department.

Her main research looks at mothers and motherhood in ancient civilizations around the Mediterranean Sea. She is also an expert in the history of women and gender in old societies. She studies how power, religion, and ideas about women were formed in the past. For example, she has studied the lives of famous women like Livia and Cleopatra.

Exploring Ancient Asturias

Rosa María Cid López has also been very interested in the history of Asturias, a region in Spain. She took part in archaeological digs in Gijón in 1983. She also helped with excavations in Lugo of Llanera from 1983 to 1989. She helped put together a book about the history of Asturias, published by La Nueva España.

From 2008 to 2011, she was part of the team that designed the permanent exhibition at the Archaeological Museum of Asturias. This helped get the museum ready before it opened.

Rosa María Cid López has been involved in many archaeological excavations. She even co-directed the digs in Lugo of Llanera from 1987 to 1989.
