Early Life and Education

Rosemary's father was Sir Ralph Harding Peto, a military officer. Her mother was Frances Ruby Vera Lindsay. From a young age, Rosemary showed an interest in art.

She began her art studies at the Westminster School of Art. This was in 1931 and 1932. Later, after some time away from her studies, she returned to art school.

From 1953 to 1956, she studied at the Royal College of Art. This is a very famous art school in London.

Her Artistic Journey

Rosemary also took a medical course at one point. This led her to become very interested in biology and plants. You can see this interest in her paintings.

Plants and flowers became a big part of her artwork. They were often the main subjects in her paintings.

Her first solo art show was in 1985. It was held at the Sally Hunt & Patrick Seale Fine Art gallery. This show featured many of her beautiful plant and flower paintings.

Later Life and Legacy

Rosemary Peto married Victor Montagu. After her marriage, she was known as Viscountess Hinchingbroke. This was a special title she received.

She passed away in 1998 in Salisbury, England. After her death, a special art show was held in her honor.

This show was called a "retrospective exhibition." It took place at the Mall Galleries in London in 1999. A retrospective show looks back at an artist's work from different times in their life. It was a way to celebrate her art and remember her talent.
