The Rosenwald Building is a very old and important building in downtown Albuquerque, New Mexico. It was designed by a famous architect named Henry Trost and built in 1910. This building was special because it was the first one in Albuquerque to be made with reinforced concrete, which is a very strong material.

The building was added to the New Mexico State Register of Cultural Properties and the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. This means it's recognized as an important historical site.

About the Rosenwald Building

The Rosenwald Building is a large, three-story building. It has a special entrance that is set back from the main building. The outside of the building has simple, cool designs. It was built using a strong material called reinforced concrete. This was a new and modern way to build things back in 1910.

Building History

When it first opened, the entire 42,000-square-foot building was home to a big department store owned by Aron and Edward Rosenwald. The Albuquerque Journal newspaper praised it as the "handsomest, most up-to-date, and most complete department store in the southwest." This shows how important and impressive it was at the time.

Later, in 1927, another store called McLellan Stores moved into the ground floor. They stayed there for about 50 years.

Modern Use of the Building

In 1981, the Rosenwald Building was updated and fixed up. The upper floors were changed into office spaces. This means that instead of selling goods, people started working there in offices. In 2008, the city of Albuquerque bought two floors of the building.
