Rosh Chodesh facts for kids
Rosh Chodesh (pronounced Rosh CHO-desh) is a special day in the Hebrew calendar. It means "Beginning of the Month" or "Head of the Month." It marks the first day of every new month and is celebrated when a new moon appears.
Rosh Chodesh is considered a minor holiday, similar to the middle days of Passover and Sukkot. It's a time for reflection and often includes special prayers.
When a Hebrew month has 30 days, the 30th day is also considered part of Rosh Chodesh for the next month. This means Rosh Chodesh can sometimes last for two days: the last day of the old month and the first day of the new month.
