Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Roxanna is a small, unincorporated community located in Greene County, in the U.S. state of Ohio. An unincorporated community is a place that doesn't have its own local government, but it's still a recognized area.

History of Roxanna

Roxanna has an interesting past, like many places in Ohio.

How Roxanna Got Its Name

Roxanna was not always called Roxanna. It was first known as Claysville. This name was used when the community was officially mapped out, or "platted," in 1845. This happened around the time a railroad was built through the area. Railroads were very important back then for travel and moving goods.

The Post Office Years

Later, in 1887, a post office was opened in the community. This is when the name Roxanna was first used for the post office. The post office helped people send and receive letters and packages. It stayed open for about 20 years, closing its doors in 1907.
