The Royal Logistic Corps Museum is a super interesting place! It tells the amazing story of how the British Army has been supported throughout history. Think about how soldiers get their food, supplies, and even mail – that's logistics! This museum, located near Winchester, England, shows how this important work has been done from famous battles like Agincourt all the way to today. It holds special collections from different army groups that now form the Royal Logistic Corps. These groups include the Royal Corps of Transport, the Royal Army Ordnance Corps, Royal Pioneer Corps, Army Catering Corps, and the Postal and Courier Section of the Royal Engineers.
A Journey Through Time
The museum has a fantastic collection of items and old records. These come from the Royal Logistic Corps (RLC) since it was formed. It also includes collections from older army groups. These groups are the Royal Corps of Transport, the Royal Army Ordnance Corps, the Royal Pioneer Corps, and the Army Catering Corps. The RLC Museum first opened in 1995 at a place called Deepcut. Then, in 2021, it moved to its current home at Worthy Down. After a big makeover, the new museum now has over 50 display cases. This means many more cool objects are on show than ever before!
Amazing Collections
When you visit, you'll see some truly unique exhibits. Imagine seeing the actual Rolls-Royce car that Field Marshal Montgomery used! He was driven in it when he landed in France right after D-Day. There's also Napoleon's field bakery, which was captured during the famous Battle of Waterloo.
The museum also has a huge collection of military vehicles. You can see old horse-drawn wagons and many different types of motorised vehicles. There are even special bomb disposal vehicles, along with their equipment and weapons. If you love medals, you're in for a treat! The museum has an extensive medal collection. This includes several Victoria Crosses, which are the highest awards for bravery. You can also see medals won at the Battle of Waterloo.
