How Royal Oaks Country Club Started
The land where Royal Oaks Country Club now stands used to be an airport called Andrau Airpark. It closed down in 1998. After that, a company called Sunrise Colony Co. decided to build a new community there. They chose this spot because it was close to many business areas, shopping centers like The Galleria, and even both of Houston's main airports. Many different home builders helped create the houses in this new community.
What Makes Royal Oaks Special?
Royal Oaks Country Club is located near Richmond Avenue and Wilcrest Avenue.
Homes and Community Life
The community was planned to have about 900 homes, including some very large "estate" houses. These homes were designed in 26 different styles. The Royal Oaks community covers 140 acres (57 hectares) of land. The country club itself takes up 10,400 square feet (966 square meters), and the golf course is spread across 160 acres (65 hectares).
To keep the community safe, there's a special gatehouse that watches over who comes in and out 24 hours a day, every day. A strong wall also surrounds the entire community.
Staying Connected and Having Fun
People living in Royal Oaks have access to a special internet network just for their community. The country club offers different types of memberships. You can join for golf, sports, the spa, or just for social events and swimming.

Fire and Safety
The Houston Fire Department has a fire station, Station 83 Royal Oaks, right in the area. This station has an ambulance, a fire engine, and a squad truck. About nine firefighters work there during each shift. The city built this station because many new homes were being built, and they wanted to make sure everyone had quick access to emergency help. Firefighters moved into the station in March 2005.
Local Government
The Royal Oaks Country Club area is part of Houston City Council District F.
