The Royal Order of the Crown of Hawaii was a special award created in 1848. King Kamehameha III of the Kingdom of Hawaii started it to celebrate becoming king. It was the very first royal order established in the Hawaiian Kingdom.

What is a Royal Order?

A royal order is like a special club or group of people. Kings or queens create these orders to honor individuals. People receive these awards for doing great things. It's a way for a country to say "thank you" for important service.

Why Was This Order Created?

King Kamehameha III founded this order to recognize loyalty. People who showed strong support for the Hawaiian crown could receive it. It also honored those who did excellent work for the kingdom. This included achievements in culture and education.

Different Levels of the Order

The Royal Order of the Crown of Hawaii had seven different levels, or "classes." Each class showed a different level of honor. The higher the class, the more important the award was.
