Rubik's family cubes of all sizes facts for kids
The Rubik's Cube is a famous puzzle. It looks like a cube with nine colored squares on each side. A Hungarian inventor named Ernő Rubik created it in 1974. He was a sculptor and a professor.
Over time, many different types of Rubik's Cubes have been made. Some are bigger, and some are digital. This article will tell you about the different kinds of Rubik's Cubes, both physical and computer versions.
Types of Rubik's Cubes
Physical Cubes
Physical Rubik's Cubes are the ones you can hold. They are based on the first 3x3x3 cube invented by Erno Rubik. These cubes usually have colored stickers on their small squares.
The standard 3x3x3 Rubik's Cube became very popular in the 1980s. Soon after, the 4x4x4 Rubik's Revenge cube came out. Other physical cubes include the 2x2x2 Pocket Cube, the 5x5x5 Professor's Cube, the 6x6x6 V-Cube 6, and the 7x7x7 V-Cube 7.
Even larger physical cubes have been made. The biggest physical cube ever created has 33 layers on each side! The largest one sold in stores has 19 layers.
Digital Cubes
Besides physical cubes, there are many digital versions. These are computer programs that act like Rubik's Cubes. Digital cube emulators are not limited by real-world physics. This means they can be much, much bigger than physical cubes.
You can find digital cubes of almost any size. Many programs let you save your progress if you are trying to solve a cube. This is a helpful feature that physical cubes do not have.
