Séamus Dolan (born December 10, 1914 – died August 10, 2010) was an important Irish politician. He was a member of the Fianna Fáil political party. He served as a Teachta Dála (TD), which is like a member of parliament, from 1961 to 1965. He was also a Senator from 1965 to 1969 and again from 1973 to 1982. From 1977 to 1981, he held the high position of Cathaoirleach of Seanad Éireann, which means he was the chairperson of the Irish Senate.

Early Life and Work
Séamus Dolan was born in a place called Gubaveeney, near Blacklion in County Cavan, Ireland. Before he became a politician, he worked as a farmer. He was also a national school teacher, helping young people learn and grow.
His Time in Politics
Séamus Dolan started his political journey by trying to get elected to Dáil Éireann. This is the main parliament in Ireland where laws are made. He ran for election in 1954 and 1957 but didn't win.
Becoming a TD
In 1961, Séamus Dolan was finally elected to the Dáil Éireann. He represented the Cavan area. He served as a TD for four years.
Moving to the Seanad
In the 1965 election, Séamus Dolan lost his seat in the Dáil. However, he soon became a member of the Seanad Éireann, which is the upper house of the Irish parliament. He was elected to the 11th Seanad on the Labour Panel.
He didn't run for re-election in 1969. But in 1973, he was elected again to the 13th Seanad.
Leading the Seanad
From 1977 to 1981, Séamus Dolan had a very important role. He was the Cathaoirleach of the 14th Seanad. This means he was in charge of the meetings and debates in the Senate. After that, he also served as the Leas-Chathaoirleach (Deputy Chairperson) in the 15th Seanad.
Passion for Irish Language
Séamus Dolan was a very good Irish speaker, known as a Gaeilgóir. He cared a lot about the Irish language. He spent much of his time helping to promote it. He also taught others how important and valuable the language was. He was one of the few people in County Cavan who spoke Irish as their first language. He even raised his own family speaking Irish at home.
Later Life
Séamus Dolan passed away on August 10, 2010. He is remembered for his dedication to public service and his love for the Irish language.
