Sergio Echigo's Amazing Playing Style
Master of Dribbling
Sergio Echigo was a very skilled football player. He was known for his clever moves and how well he could control the ball. He often used tricks called feints to fool his opponents. A feint is when a player pretends to move one way, but then quickly changes direction. This makes it hard for defenders to guess what he will do next.
He was also famous for his dribbling skills. Dribbling means moving the ball around the field while keeping it close to your feet. Sergio could dribble past many players with ease.
The 'Elastico' Move
Sergio Echigo is credited with inventing a special dribbling move called the 'Elastico'. This move is also known as the 'flip-flap'. To do the Elastico, a player pushes the ball outwards with the outside of their foot, then quickly pulls it back inwards with the inside of the same foot. This makes the ball look like it's going one way, but then it suddenly changes direction. It's a very tricky move that can leave defenders confused.
A famous Brazilian football legend named Rivellino learned this move from Sergio. They were teammates at Corinthians in 1964. Rivellino then perfected the Elastico and made it even more famous around the world.
