About the Sacaton Mountains

The Sacaton Mountains are sometimes called "inselbergs." This is a fancy word for mountains or hills that rise up suddenly from a flat plain. Think of them like islands in a sea of land! They are made mostly of granite, which is a very hard type of rock.

Peaks and Location

The tallest point in the Sacaton Mountains is called Sacaton Peak. It reaches an elevation of 2,755 feet (about 840 meters) above sea level. Other important peaks in this range include Agency Peak, Hayden Peak, Thin Mountain, Fivemile Peak, and Signal Peak.

The mountains are easy to spot if you are traveling in the area. A major highway, Interstate 10, actually goes right through the Sacaton Mountains. This makes them a noticeable landmark for anyone driving by.
