What Does the Festival Do?
The Sacramento International Film Festival brings together fun parties, interesting speakers, and lots of movie showings. It's seen as a very important part of the movie world in Sacramento, California. The festival has even helped start other similar events, like French and Jewish film festivals. A cool rule for the festival is that it only shows movies that have never been seen before in or around Sacramento. This makes the screenings extra special!
How Did the Festival Start?
The Sacramento Film Festival actually began with a different name: the Sacramento Festival of Cinema. It's the oldest movie event in the Sacramento area that shows all kinds of films. The Festival of Cinema started way back in 1995. It was created by a person named Kenneth Segura Knoll, who was also its first director.
In 1998, Mr. Knoll handed over the festival's management to Access Sacramento. This is a special TV station that helps the public, schools, and government share information. Access Sacramento had been a supporter of the festival from the very beginning. Ron Cooper, who was in charge of Access Sacramento, asked Martin Anaya to manage the festival.
By 2004, Access Sacramento had to make some changes because of money and staff cuts. They decided to focus on a very successful program called "Place Called Sacramento." This program helps local filmmakers create movies. Martin Anaya didn't want the other parts of the festival to stop. So, he asked Access Sacramento if he could continue the festival on his own. They agreed, and that's how the "Sacramento Film Festival" was born!
