Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Saint Aubert is a small place in Osage County, Missouri, in the United States. It's called an "unincorporated community," which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's part of the larger county. This area has also been known by other names, like "Medora" and "Shipleys Landing."

The Story of Saint Aubert

How Saint Aubert Got Its Name

The area we now know as Saint Aubert actually had a different name when it first started. It was originally called Medora. In 1855, the land was officially "platted." This means someone drew up a map showing how the land was divided into lots and streets. This first map was named after Medora Morrow, who was the wife of one of the first people to settle there.

Changes Over Time

A post office was opened in Medora in 1858, helping people send and receive mail. However, the name of the community changed in 1893 from Medora to Saint Aubert. This new name came from a nearby area called St. Aubert Township, Callaway County, Missouri. The post office in Saint Aubert eventually closed its doors in 1935.
