Cool Projects and Inventions
Designing for Families
From 2000 to 2008, Sally started her own design company called BUG Design. She focused on creating products that were good for the environment. One of her most famous designs is the Nest high chair. This high chair won many awards because it was safe, practical, and looked great. It's even kept in the Powerhouse Museum as an important design! Sally also designed a low chair and a cup holder to go with the Nest high chair.
The Rainwater Hog
In 2004, Sally invented her most famous product: the Rainwater Hog. This is a special tank that collects and stores rainwater. Sally knew how important water was because she lived in dry places like Australia and California.
Older rainwater tanks were often big and expensive. Sally's Rainwater Hog is different. It's made of smaller parts that can fit together like building blocks. This means people can choose how big or small they want their tank to be. It can be installed standing up or lying down, which helps it fit into more spaces.
The Rainwater Hog tanks are also very strong. They can handle lots of sun and can be used again and again. They are also safer than old barrels because they won't spill or tip over easily. This invention makes it much easier for homes, businesses, and schools to save water.
Adventurous Thinking
Sally also created something called the Adventurous Thinking 10X Mindset. This is a special way of thinking that helps people come up with new ideas and be creative. It teaches you to be curious and comfortable with trying new things.
This program has been used by big companies, NASA, and even in schools in Australia. It helps people learn how to keep inventing and solving problems.
Helping Organizations and Writing
Since 2020, Sally has been helping organizations use technology to connect people. She focuses on making sure people can still work together and be strong, even when things change.
Sally also gives talks about design. She writes articles for magazines about design, new products, and how to make things in a way that helps the planet. In 2021, she wrote a book called Epic Resilience. This book teaches people how to be strong and positive when facing challenges.
