Salomé is best known for winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 1969. She shared the first prize with three other singers, which was a very unique event in the contest's history!

Salomé's Singing Journey

Starting Her Career

Salomé began her singing career at Radio Barcelona. From there, she continued to sing and also appeared on television as a host. She even performed as an opening act for the very famous singer Frank Sinatra! By 1963, she had already recorded more than 40 songs for different record companies.

Winning Music Festivals

In 1963, Salomé won the 5th Festival de la Canción Mediterránea de Barcelona. This was a big music contest. Her winning song was "Se'n va anar," which she sang in Catalan. Four years later, in 1967, she won second prize at the same festival with her song "Com el vent." She also competed in other festivals, like the Festival de Valencia, where she won the prize for best singer.

Popular Songs

Salomé recorded many popular songs in both Catalan and Spanish. Some of her most well-known songs include "Quinientas millas," "L'arbre," "Bésame mucho," "Com el vent," "L'emigrant," "Puedo morir mañana," "Isla del amor," and "Esperaré." In 1969, she married Sebastián García.

Eurovision Song Contest 1969

In 1969, Salomé represented Spain at the Eurovision Song Contest. This big music competition was held in Madrid that year. Her song was called "Vivo cantando" (I Live Singing). It was written by María José Cerato and Aniano Alcalde.

Salomé made history at this contest! She shared the first prize with three other singers: Lulu from the United Kingdom, Frida Boccara from France, and Lenny Kuhr from the Netherlands. This was the only time in Eurovision history that the prize was shared by so many contestants. The previous Eurovision winner, Spanish singer Massiel, presented Salomé with her award.

Salomé's dress for the performance was very special. It was designed by Manuel Pertegaz. The dress weighed 14 kilograms (about 31 pounds) and was made of small chalk-blue porcelain cylinders. She also wore three necklaces, each weighing 1 kilogram (about 2.2 pounds)! Salomé recorded her winning song "Vivo cantando" in eight different languages. These included Spanish, Catalan, Basque, French, German, Italian, English, and Serbo-Croatian.
