Samra Brouk (born May 20, 1986) is an American politician who serves in the New York State Senate. As a member of the Democratic Party, she represents the 55th district. This area includes the city of Rochester and some of its nearby suburbs.
A state senator is a lawmaker who helps create laws for their state. They are elected by the people in their district to represent them in the state government.

Early Life and Education
Samra Brouk was born in Rochester, New York. Her parents were immigrants from Ethiopia. She grew up in Rochester and the nearby town of Pittsford.
After high school, Brouk attended Williams College. After graduating, she joined the Peace Corps, an American volunteer program that helps people in other countries. Later, she worked for non-profit organizations, which are groups that work to help society.
Running for Office
In November 2019, Brouk announced she would run for the New York State Senate. She planned to challenge the current senator, Rich Funke, who was a member of the Republican Party.
A month later, Funke decided not to run for re-election. This meant Brouk would compete against a new candidate. In the general election, she ran against Republican Christopher Missick. Brouk won the election with 57% of the vote. She officially became a state senator on January 1, 2021.

As a senator, Brouk is the leader of the Mental Health Committee. A committee is a small group of lawmakers who focus on specific topics, like education or health.
