Becoming a Member of Parliament

In December 1699, Samuel Pytts was chosen as an MP for Hereford. This happened in a special election called a by-election, after the previous MP, Paul Foley, passed away.

Challenges in Elections

However, in January 1701, Samuel Pytts lost his seat in the general election. Paul Foley's son, Thomas Foley, won instead. Pytts tried again in November 1701 for Hereford, but he decided to stop campaigning early because things were not going well.

Serving as High Sheriff

From 1704 to 1705, Samuel Pytts held an important local position as the High Sheriff of Worcestershire. This role involved keeping law and order in the county. In 1714, he also became a "freeman" of Worcester, which meant he had certain rights and privileges in the city.

Representing Worcestershire

In 1710, Pytts was elected as an MP for Worcestershire. He was re-elected for the same area in 1713. During this time, in September 1713, he was also appointed as a "Lord of Trade" by the Earl of Oxford. This was a role in the government that dealt with trade matters. He held this position until December 1714.

End of His Political Career

In the 1715 general election, Samuel Pytts lost his seat in Worcestershire to Thomas Vernon. After this, he did not try to become an MP again. He passed away on January 15, 1729.
