San Cayetano (also known as Saint Cajetan in English) was an important Catholic saint who lived from 1480 to 1547. He is remembered for helping people in need and for starting a new religious group. Many places around the world are named after him.

Who Was San Cayetano?

San Cayetano was born Gaetano Thiene in 1480 in Vicenza, Italy. His family was noble and well-respected. Sadly, his father passed away when Gaetano was very young.

He grew up to be a very smart person. He studied law at the University of Padua. After finishing his studies, he worked for Pope Julius II in Rome. This was a very important job.

Even though he had a good career, Gaetano felt called to a different path. He decided to become a priest. He was ordained, which means he became a priest, in 1516.

Starting the Theatines

San Cayetano was worried about the problems he saw in the Church. He wanted to help people live a more spiritual life. In 1524, he started a new group of priests called the Theatines.

The Theatines were different because they chose to live very simply. They did not own much and relied on God's help. They focused on helping the sick and the poor. They also worked to improve the lives of priests.

San Cayetano spent his life helping others. He opened hospitals for people who were sick and had no one to care for them. He believed in trusting God completely, even when things were difficult.

Why Is He Important Today?

San Cayetano is especially known as the patron saint of job seekers and the unemployed. Many people pray to him when they are looking for work. He is also seen as a protector of workers.

His feast day is celebrated on August 7th each year. On this day, many people, especially in countries like Argentina, honor him. They often gather to ask for his help in finding jobs and for good fortune.
