This community is located in the southern part of the Chalatenango Department. It is south of the city of Chalatenango. San José Cancasque shares its borders with other towns. To the north, you will find San Isidro Labrador. To the east, it is next to Potonico and San Miguel de Mercedes. A few kilometers to the south, you can find Lake Suchitlán.
