How San Lorenzo Got Its Name
The story of San Lorenzo's name goes back to 1852. A woman named Josefa Tellez owned a small farm near where the town is today. She found a special religious image of San Lorenzo. Because of this discovery, the area became known as San Lorenzo de los Tellez. This name honored Josefa Tellez and the image she found.
Becoming an Official Town
San Lorenzo officially became a town on August 23, 1858. More people moved to the town in 1872, especially from the Granada Department. This helped the town grow bigger.
