San Martín Palace (also called Palacio San Martín) is a grand building in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It stands proudly across from San Martín Square in the Retiro area. Today, it's used for important events and ceremonies by Argentina's Ministry of Foreign Relations.

History of the Palace

The San Martín Palace was designed in a special style called Beaux Arts. This style is known for being grand and fancy. A famous architect named Alejandro Christophersen created the plans for the palace in 1905.

The palace was built for a wealthy family, Mercedes Castellanos de Anchorena, and was finished in 1909. It was their home for many years.

From Home to Government Use

In 1936, the government of Argentina bought the palace. It then became the main office for the Ministry of Foreign Relations. This ministry handles Argentina's relationships with other countries around the world.

Later, in 1993, the Ministry of Foreign Relations moved its main offices to a new building. But the San Martín Palace is still very important! It is now used for special events, meetings with leaders from other countries, and important ceremonies.

Art in the Palace

The palace is also like a museum! It holds many amazing artworks from the 20th century. These pieces were created by talented artists from Argentina and other American countries. Some of the famous artists whose work you can find there include Antonio Berni, Pablo Curatella Manes, Lino Enea Spilimbergo, and Roberto Matta.
