Where is Sand Branch?

Sand Branch is in southeastern Dallas County, Texas. It is about two miles south of U.S. Highway 175. Downtown Dallas is about 14 miles northwest. The community sits between the Trinity River and Hickory Creek. It is also southwest of Seagoville. Sand Branch is special because it is the only unincorporated community left in Dallas County. Most of the county is now part of cities.

Community Challenges in Sand Branch

Sand Branch has a long history. It was first settled by freed Black Americans. Over time, some families have faced tough living conditions. These conditions have sometimes made them leave their homes. A few of the original families still live on their land today.

One of the biggest challenges for the community is getting clean water. Even though there is a wastewater treatment facility nearby, Sand Branch does not have a system to bring clean water to homes. This is because it is an unincorporated area. The wells that residents use are not safe to drink from. They have been contaminated for many years. This means people must bring in water from other places to use for drinking and daily needs.

Population of Sand Branch

In the year 2000, about 400 people lived in Sand Branch. The community did not take part in the 2010 Census.
