Sandy Islands (Manitoba) facts for kids
The Sandy Islands are a small group of four islands. You can find them in the northern part of Lake Winnipeg in the Canadian province of Manitoba. These islands, along with Little George Island, George Island, and the Spider Islands, form a chain. This chain is a natural continuation of something called The Pas Moraine.
Where Are the Sandy Islands?
The biggest island in the group is called Big Sandy Island. It's about 47 kilometers (29 mi) west of the Poplar River's mouth on the lake's eastern side. It's also about 32 kilometers (20 mi) east of Long Point, which is on the western side of Lake Winnipeg.
Other Islands in the Group
Besides Big Sandy Island, there are other islands too. Little Sandy Island is located to the northwest of the main island. Cannibal Island is found to the southeast. The smallest island in the group is in a narrow waterway between Little Sandy and Big Sandy islands.
Uninhabited Islands
The Sandy Islands are completely uninhabited. This means no people live on them, and there are no buildings or structures made by humans there. They are natural and untouched.
