Sanguinaccio dolce facts for kids
Sanguinaccio dolce is a sweet Italian dessert. It was traditionally made creamy and sweet using ingredients like chocolate, milk, pine nuts, raisins, and sugar.
This dessert was often prepared in Naples for Carnevale (Carnival). This is a big celebration that happens just before the start of Lent. In different parts of Italy, people served it in various ways. It could be warm and runny for dipping, or cooled to become a solid pudding or cake.
However, because of health rules, selling desserts made with pig's blood became illegal in 1992. Today, if you find Sanguinaccio dolce, it is usually made without blood, using only the sweet ingredients.
