Sanskrit cinema is about movies made in Sanskrit, an ancient language of India. It's a small but special part of India's Film industry.
History of Sanskrit Cinema
The very first Sanskrit movie was called Adi Shankaracharya. It came out in 1983. The National Film Development Corporation of India helped make it, and G.V. Iyer was the director.
G.V. Iyer also directed the second Sanskrit film, Bhagavad Gita, which was released in 1992.
Priyamanasam was the third Sanskrit movie. It tells the story of Unnayi Warrier, a poet from Kerala who lived a long time ago in the 1600s. Vinod Mankara, a director who has won awards, made this film.
In 2015, a film called Ishti was released. It was a Sanskrit movie made by G. Prabh.
Anurakthi was the first Sanskrit movie made in 3D. It was released in 2018.
There are also some short films made in the Sanskrit language. In 2018, the actor and comedian Manoj started working to help Sanskrit cinema grow.
