The Story Behind Santa's Workshop

The idea for Santa's Workshop came from a special story. A businessman named Julian Reiss, from Lake Placid, told his daughter a tale. It was about a baby bear who went to visit Santa Claus at the North Pole.

How the Park Was Built

This sweet story inspired the creation of the park. An artist named Arto Monaco designed the village. Harold Fortune, who owned the land, helped build and promote the park.

Early Popularity

When Santa's Workshop first opened, it quickly became very popular. People were excited to visit! In September 1951, more than 14,000 visitors came to the park in just one day.
