Santiago is a city and a municipality (a type of local government area) in the middle of the Mexican state of Nuevo León. It is part of the larger Monterrey metropolitan area. The total area of Santiago is about 739.2 square kilometers.
In 2020, about 46,784 people lived in Santiago. An important water source for the area, "La Boca" Dam, is located here. You can also find the famous "Cola de Caballo" waterfall, which is a popular spot for tourists.
Santiago, Nuevo León, was given the special title of "Pueblo Mágico" (Magical Town) in 2006. This title is given by Mexico's tourism department to places with unique natural beauty, cultural richness, or historical importance. In 2017, Santiago also joined the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities, which helps cities share ideas about education.
