Her Books and Awards
Sara Mesa started her writing journey with poetry. In 2007, she published her first poetry book, Este jilguero agenda (which means This Goldfinch Agenda). This book won her the important Miguel Hernández National Poetry Prize. After that, she wrote three collections of short stories and several novels.
One of her novels, Un incendio invisible (An Invisible Fire), won the Málaga Novel Prize in 2011. Another novel, Cicatriz (Scar), won two awards: the Ojo Crítico Narrative Prize and the Archbishop Juan de San Clemente Literary Prize. Her novel Cuatro por cuatro (Four by Four) was also recognized, being nominated for the Herralde Prize. In 2021, her novel Un amor won the Booksellers' Prize.
Translated Works and a Movie
Many of Sara Mesa's books have been translated into English. They are published by Open Letter Books in the United States. Her 2020 novel, Un amor, was even made into a movie with the same title, Un amor. This shows how popular and impactful her stories are.
