Sarah-Marie Belcastro was born in San Diego, CA in 1970. She grew up in different places, including Andover, MA, and Dubuque, IA.

Education and Early Career

She studied math and astronomy at Haverford College, earning her first degree in 1991. Later, she went to The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. There, she earned her master's degree in 1993 and her Ph.D. (a high-level degree) in math in 1997. Her Ph.D. research was about a complex area of math called "Picard Lattices of Families of K3 Surfaces."

Teaching and Leadership Roles

Since 2012, Sarah-Marie has been an instructor at the Art of Problem Solving Online School. This school helps students learn advanced math.

Since 2013, she has been the director of MathILy. This is a special summer program at Bryn Mawr College for students who love math. The name MathILy stands for "serious Mathematics Infused with Levity." She also teaches as a guest faculty member at Sarah Lawrence College.

From 2003 to 2019, she was an Associate Editor for The College Mathematics Journal. This means she helped review and prepare articles for the journal. She has also given many lectures at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst since 2012.
