Sarapiquí is a district in Costa Rica. It's part of the Alajuela canton, which is in the Alajuela province. People sometimes mix it up with the Sarapiquí canton because they are neighbors!

A Look Back in Time
Sarapiquí became an official district on November 6, 1922. It was created by a special rule called Decree 28.
Where is Sarapiquí Located?
This district is in the northern part of Costa Rica. It shares borders with several other places. To the east, it borders the Sarapiquí canton. To the northwest, it's next to Río Cuarto. Sarchí is to its west, and the Sabanilla de Alajuela district is to the south.
San Miguel: The Heart of Sarapiquí
The main town in Sarapiquí is San Miguel. It's a charming, rural village. San Miguel is about 51 kilometers (an hour and a half drive) north of Alajuela city. It's also about 68 kilometers (nearly two hours) north of San José, which is Costa Rica's capital.
The towns closest to San Miguel are Río Cuarto (a city), La Virgen de Sarapiquí (a village), and Cariblanco (another village).
Land and Nature
Sarapiquí covers an area of 113.98 square kilometers. This makes it the largest district in the Alajuela canton by size. The land here is mostly mountainous, with an elevation of 510 meters above sea level.
