Early Education and University Studies

Sarita Adve started her higher education in 1987. She earned a Bachelor of Technology degree in electrical engineering. She studied at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay in India.

After that, she moved to the United States. She continued her studies at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. There, she earned two more degrees in computer science. She received her Master of Science degree in 1989. Then, she completed her Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy) in 1993.

Teaching and Research Career

Before joining the University of Illinois, Professor Adve taught at Rice University. She was a faculty member there from 1993 to 1999. Her work at universities involves both teaching students and doing important research.

She also helped guide important groups in computer science. From 2003 to 2005, she advised the National Science Foundation's computer science section. She also worked on a team from 2001 to 2005. This team helped improve the rules for how the Java computer language works. From 2015 to 2019, she led a major computer architecture group called ACM SIGARCH.
