How Savannah Ré Started in Music
Savannah Ré went to St. John Paul II Catholic Secondary School in Scarborough. She began performing music in Toronto after someone at an open mic show encouraged her to sing on stage. An open mic is an event where new artists can perform for an audience.
Her talent quickly caught the eye of famous musicians. The well-known musician and producer Babyface noticed her. He invited her to join two competitions for new artists. She also got to perform as an opening act for singer Jessie Reyez. Savannah Ré opened for Jessie Reyez on her tour for the album Being Human in Public. After these experiences, Savannah Ré signed with the 1Music record label, which belongs to producer Boi-1da.
Awards and Recognition for Her Music
Savannah Ré has won important awards for her songs. At the Juno Awards of 2021, she won the award for Traditional R&B/Soul Recording of the Year. This was for her song "Solid." The Juno Awards are like the Grammy Awards for Canadian music. She was also nominated for Contemporary R&B/Soul Recording of the Year for her song "Where You Are."
Her first EP, Opia, was also recognized. It was longlisted for the 2021 Polaris Music Prize. This prize celebrates the best Canadian album of the year.
