Where Does it Grow?

The Texas sunnybell loves certain types of places. It often grows in areas with sandstone rocks. You can also find it in wet pinelands. These are forests with pine trees and lots of moisture. It also likes boggy places, which are very wet and marshy areas.

What Does it Look Like?

The Texas sunnybell has special roots called rootstocks. These grow straight down into the ground. Each rootstock has a round bulb on top. These bulbs can be up to 17 mm (0.67 in) (about two-thirds of an inch) wide.

Each plant usually has between two and seven leaves. These leaves can grow up to 34 cm (13 in) (about 13 inches) long. They are only about 6 mm (0.24 in) (a quarter of an inch) wide. The leaves are flat or slightly curved. They are usually shorter than the plant's flower stalk.

When Does it Flower?

The Texas sunnybell blooms in the spring. Its flowers appear between March and May. The flower parts are called tepals. These are shaped like an egg or a spearhead. They are white with a green stripe on the back. Most tepals have three veins, but some can have five.
