History of Scotch Hill

Scotch Hill has an interesting history that dates back to the 1800s. It was named to remember some of the early settlers in the area.

Early Settlers and Land

In 1836, a man named George Alsbach moved to this area. He bought a large piece of land called the "Anderson tract" for $1,500. At that time, the land around his new home was mostly wild forest.

Building a Community

When George Alsbach arrived, there were only two small log cabins and a half-built barn. He soon replaced these with more comfortable frame houses. These new buildings were much better for his family.

How Scotch Hill Got Its Name

In the spring of 1851, Mr. Alsbach decided to divide part of his farm into smaller pieces of land, called lots. He planned to create a village there. He named this new village "Scotch Hill." This name was chosen to honor the land's previous owner, Anderson, and his neighbor, McNaughton.
