It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. This means it is a special building that is important to history. Even though it was first built for businesses, it is now used for homes.

What Does the Second Callahan Block Look Like?

The Second Callahan Block is on Lisbon Street in Lewiston. It is a four-story building made of yellow bricks. It has a fancy roof edge called a cornice. The bottom floor used to have two shops. There was also a main entrance in the middle.

Windows and Design Details

The upper floors have many windows. They are arranged in groups of three, four, and three. The windows on the second and third floors are square. They have special stones above them. The windows on the top floor are rounded at the top. A stone line separates the second and third floors. This line also acts as a ledge for the windows. Brick columns also separate parts of the building. The way it looks fits in with other old buildings on Lisbon Street.

Who Built the Second Callahan Block?

The Second Callahan Block was built for Timothy F. and Eugene A. Callahan. They were brothers who sold men's clothes and accessories. Before this building, the Callahan brothers built another building next door in 1892.

The Architects Behind the Building

The first building was designed by George M. Coombs. His son, Harry S. Coombs, later led the family's architecture firm. This firm was called Coombs & Gibbs. They were the ones who designed the Second Callahan Block.
