How the League Worked
The Segunda División B was set up with 80 teams. These teams were divided into four main groups. Each group had 20 teams.
Moving Up: Promotion
Teams worked hard to move up to the next level. This was called promotion.
- The top 6 teams in each group got to play in the Copa del Rey. This is a big cup competition in Spain.
- Teams that finished 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in their group could try to move up. They played in special matches called playoffs. If they won these playoffs, they would be promoted to the Segunda División.
- The team that finished 1st in each group also played in playoffs. These playoffs decided the overall champion of the Segunda División B. The winner was declared the league champion.
Moving Down: Relegation
Teams could also move down to a lower league. This was called relegation.
- The bottom 4 teams in each group were automatically sent down. They moved to the Tercera División.
- Teams that finished 16th in their group also had to play. They competed against each other. The teams that performed the worst in these matches were also relegated.
