Selby Beeler grew up in Rochester, Minnesota. She later moved to New York for college and work. After that, she lived in Alabama with her husband. Eventually, she returned to Rochester, Minnesota, where she lives with her family and a rescue cat.

Besides raising her two children, Selby has had many interesting jobs. She taught swimming and canoeing. She even rescued baby birds! Selby also worked for a fashion magazine. She drew cartoons for an Army newspaper and wrote articles for weekly newspapers. She also co-owned two children's stores, where she created all the ads.
