Semisi Kioa Lafu Sika was born on January 31, 1968. He is a politician and businessman from Tonga. He was a member of the Tongan Parliament from 2010 to 2021. In September 2019, he briefly served as the acting prime minister. This happened after the death of the previous prime minister, ʻAkilisi Pōhiva. Semisi Sika is currently the leader of the Democratic Party of the Friendly Islands.

Early Life and Work
Semisi Sika grew up in Haveluloto, Tonga. He went to Brigham Young University–Hawaii and earned a Bachelor of Science degree. Before he became a politician, he worked as a teacher. He also worked as a travel agent. He owned a takeaway food shop and a catering business.
Sika has always supported the movement for democracy in Tonga. In 2007, he was involved in a protest march. He was later found not guilty of any wrongdoing.
Political Journey
Joining Parliament
Semisi Sika is a member of the Democratic Party of the Friendly Islands. He was first elected to the Tongan Parliament in 2010. He represented the area of Tongatapu 2. He was re-elected in 2014. After that, he became the Chairman of the Committee of the Whole House. This is an important role in the Parliament.
Becoming a Minister
In April 2016, Semisi Sika was given a new job. He was appointed as the Minister of Tourism and Infrastructure. This meant he was in charge of things like roads, buildings, and promoting Tonga as a travel destination.
After the 2017 election, Sika was chosen to be the Deputy Prime Minister of Tonga. This is the second-highest position in the government. In July 2019, some people asked him to resign. This was after he spoke during a speech at the Miss Pacific pageant.
Acting Prime Minister
On September 12, 2019, the Prime Minister, ʻAkilisi Pōhiva, passed away. Semisi Sika then became the acting prime minister. He served in this role for a short time. He wanted to become the permanent prime minister. However, he was defeated by Pōhiva Tuʻiʻonetoa in a vote.
Semisi Sika continues to lead the Democratic Party of the Friendly Islands. In December 2020, he proposed a vote of no-confidence against Prime Minister Tuʻiʻonetoa. This means he wanted to remove the prime minister from office.
Sika ran for re-election in the 2021 Tongan general election. However, he was not successful this time.
