What Does Sensitivity Mean for People?

When we talk about people, sensitivity can mean a few things. It often refers to how much a person notices or reacts to their surroundings, feelings, or the feelings of others.

Being a Highly Sensitive Person

Some people are called highly sensitive persons (HSPs). This means they notice a lot of small details in their environment that others might miss. They can also feel emotions, both their own and others', very deeply. For example, a highly sensitive person might:

• Notice subtle smells, sounds, or textures more than others.
• Get easily overwhelmed by loud noises, bright lights, or busy places.
