Sergey Nepobedimy studied at the Bauman Moscow State Technical University. He graduated in 1945. After finishing his studies, he started working at a special design bureau. This place was known as SKB-101, or KBM. Today, it is called FSUE «KB Mashinostroyeniya».

What Did Sergey Nepobedimy Design?

Sergey Nepobedimy was the main designer for many different types of rocket systems. These systems were used for defense. He led teams that created advanced technology.

Anti-Tank Missile Systems

He helped create missiles that could stop tanks. These systems were very important for defense.

  • The «Shmel» system was developed in 1960.
  • The «Malyutka» came out in 1963.
  • Later, an improved version, the semi-automatic «Malyutka-P», was ready in 1969.
  • He also worked on the supersonic anti-tank guided rocket system «Sturm». This included the «Sturm-B» for helicopters (1976) and «Sturm-C» for vehicles (1978).
  • The «Ataka» missile was a much better version of the «Sturm».
  • He also designed the first double-channeled Khrizantema system.

Portable Air Defense Systems

Sergey Nepobedimy also designed missiles that soldiers could carry. These were used to shoot down aircraft.

  • The «Strela-2» system was designed in 1968.
  • The «Strela-2M» followed in 1970.
  • Then came the «Strela-3» in 1974.
  • Later, he developed the «Igla-1» (1981) and the «Igla» (1983).

Tactical Rocket Complexes

He also worked on larger rocket systems used for tactical purposes.

  • The TRK "Tochka" was developed in 1975. It had different types of warheads.
  • An improved version, the "Tochka-U", was ready in 1988.
  • He also designed the operative-tactical rocket complex OTRK "Oka" in 1980.

Vehicle Defense Systems

Sergey Nepobedimy even worked on systems to protect armored vehicles.

  • He designed the active armored vehicle defense system called KAZ "Arena". This system helps protect tanks from incoming attacks.

What About the Iskander Missiles?

Sergey Nepobedimy started the design work for the famous Iskander missiles. This project began in December 1988.

Later Life and Legacy

In 1989, a treaty called the INF Treaty was signed. This treaty led to the removal of some Soviet missiles, including the OTRK "Oka". After this, Sergey Nepobedimy decided to step down from his role as Chief Designer at KBM.

From 1990 until he passed away, he worked at the Moscow Central Scientific Research Institute of Automatics and Hydraulics. He was the head of a scientific and technical center there called "REAGENT". He wrote more than 350 scientific papers and held many patents. He even made one important discovery.

Sergey Nepobedimy died in Kolomna in April 2014. He was buried at the Federal Military Memorial Cemetery. His work greatly impacted rocket and missile technology.
