Seth Gilliam (born November 5, 1968) is an American actor. He is famous for playing different characters in popular TV shows. You might know him as Ellis Carver from The Wire, Dr. Alan Deaton from Teen Wolf, or Father Gabriel Stokes from The Walking Dead. He also played Clayton Hughes on the show Oz.

Early Life and Education
Seth Gilliam was born on November 5, 1968. He grew up in Washington Heights, Manhattan, in the U.S. He went to college at the State University of New York at Purchase. He finished his studies there in 1990.
Acting Career
Seth Gilliam started his acting career in movies in the early 1990s. He has been in several well-known films. For example, he played Sergeant Sugar Watkins in the 1997 action movie Starship Troopers. He was also Sergeant Steven Altameyer in the 1996 film Courage Under Fire. He also appeared in the award-winning film Still Alice.
Television Roles
Gilliam has had many important roles on television. He was a regular character, Aaron Dexter, in the seventh season of The Cosby Show. He also played Dr. Alan Deaton on Teen Wolf for many years.
One of his most famous roles was as Ellis Carver on the TV show The Wire. In May 2014, Seth Gilliam joined the cast of AMC's The Walking Dead. He played the character Father Gabriel Stokes starting in the fifth season. He has also made guest appearances in other shows like CSI: Miami, Nurse Jackie, and The Good Wife.
Stage Acting
Besides movies and TV, Seth Gilliam also loves acting on stage in plays. In 1993, he played Prince Edward in a play called Richard III. He also played the main character in Othello twice. His wife, Leah C. Gardiner, directed him in the 2011 production of Othello. They worked together again in 2013 for the play Antony and Cleopatra, where Gilliam played Antony.
Gilliam has said that he enjoys acting on stage more than in films or TV shows. He likes the direct connection he feels with the audience during a live performance.
