Seán Ó Neachtain was an important Irish poet and writer. He lived a long time ago, from around 1645 or 1650 until March 9, 1729.
About Seán Ó Neachtain
Seán Ó Neachtain's family originally came from a place called Máenmaige. However, they were forced to move to an area known as the Fews of Athlone. This move happened because of powerful groups like the Ua Conchobhair Kings of Connacht or the de Burgh Earls of Ulster.
Seán Ó Neachtain was born in Cluain Oileáin, which is in County Roscommon. He was born sometime between 1645 and 1650. This was during the later parts of the Irish Confederate Wars, a time of conflict in Ireland.
When he was a young man, Seán left Cluain Oileáin and moved to Dublin. He might have moved as early as 1670, but he was definitely living there before 1690.
His Family Life
Seán Ó Neachtain was married two times during his life. His first wife was Una Nagle, who passed away around 1703.
His second wife was Úna Ní Bhroin. She was related to Edmund Byrne, who was an Archbishop of Dublin. An Archbishop is a very important leader in the Catholic Catholic Church.
Seán Ó Neachtain had three known children. Their names were Tadhg Ó Neachtain, Luke, and Anna.
