Sfiso Ncwane (born April 21, 1979 – died December 5, 2016) was a famous South African gospel musician. He was also a talented composer and music producer. Sfiso grew up in Mthwalume, a town in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. His aunt raised him from a very young age.
He started singing when he was just 8 years old. His amazing singing talent was first noticed at his local church. By the time he was 10, he was singing isicathamiya (a type of Zulu vocal music) and gospel songs. In the mid-1990s, he taught himself to play keyboards, bass guitar, and drums. This led to him being invited to perform at weddings, churches, parties, and even funerals.

A Music Career to Remember
Sfiso Ncwane is known as one of South Africa's greatest gospel artists. He recorded his first professional album, Makadunyiswe, in 2001. This album was released with Bula Music and quickly made him popular in the gospel music world. Even before his official first album, his demo recordings had already made him well-known.
In 2003, he released "Umkhuleko," which became a number one hit on many South African radio stations. He worked with other artists like Vuyo Mokoena and Zodwa Twecu on his album, Inombolo Yasezulwini. Later, Sfiso released Baba Ngyavuma with EMI Records. He went on to release many albums that sold millions of copies. Eventually, he started his own music company called Sfiso Ncwane Productions.
His album Baba Ngyavuma included the award-winning song "Phakama Nkosi yeZulu." This was the first song released by his own company and it sold over 70,000 copies! Sfiso's big dream was for his company to help young, talented artists who wanted to write and produce songs. In late 2011, Sfiso Ncwane released Kulungile Baba. This album was incredibly successful, selling 328,000 copies in just 16 months.

Television Appearances
Sfiso Ncwane was the first gospel musician to perform on SABC 1’s youth party show Live AMP. He appeared on the show on May 17, 2013. In 2016, he released a song called "Hands Up," which some fans thought sounded like a hip-hop song. He performed this song on SABC 3’s The Weekend Edition in October of that year. Sfiso also appeared on the Cooking Gospel show on June 16, 2013. On the show, he prepared a simple but tasty meal.
Helping Others
Sfiso was a kind man who truly believed in helping people in need. He started the S’fiso Ncwane Bursary Foundation. Through this foundation, he gave school uniforms to over 1,000 school children. He also donated more than R10,000 to local schools in faraway rural areas. He even recorded an album and gave all the money from its sales to orphaned children in Johannesburg.
His Passing
Sfiso Ncwane passed away on Monday morning, December 5, 2016. He died from a heart attack.
