Shabaam Sahdeeq's Music Journey
Starting with Polyrhythm Addicts
In 1999, Shabaam Sahdeeq teamed up with DJ Spinna, Mr. Complex, and Apani B. They formed a hip-hop group called Polyrhythm Addicts. This group was known as a "supergroup." A supergroup is when famous artists come together to make music. They were important in the rise of independent hip-hop music in the late 1990s.
Their song "Not Your Ordinary" helped make way for their first album. The album was called Rhyme Related. It was released on June 9, 1999. People said it was full of great music. After this success, the group decided to take a break. Each member wanted to focus on their own music careers.
Solo Career and New Music
Shabaam Sahdeeq then started his solo music journey. He worked with many well-known rappers. These included Busta Rhymes, Redman, Method Man, Kool G Rap, Common, Mos Def, and Eminem. His unique voice and way of rapping made him popular. He gained mainstream success on the "Simon Says" Remix. He worked on this song with his label mate Pharoahe Monch.
Sahdeeq is also known for his work on the Sound Bombing and Lyricist Lounge music series. At this time, he was ready to release his own solo album. It was planned to be with Rawkus Records. But, the record label had problems with distributing music. Because of this, his solo project was never released. He then asked to leave the label. He wanted to find a new record label to work with.
In 2001, Shabaam Sahdeeq came back with a new song. It was called "Bubbling" and was released on Raptivism Records. This song was played on the radio. "Bubbling" was also on his first solo album, Never Say Never. Four years later, he released another album. It was called Strategize: The Mixtape Album. People said it was good, but not amazing.
Polyrhythm Addicts Reunite
Seven years after their first album, Sahdeeq got back together with Spinna and Complex. A new artist named Tiye Phoenix joined them. She replaced Apani B. Fly Emcee. They released their second album, Breaking Glass. This album was long-awaited by fans. It came out on April 24, 2007. Babygrande Records released it.
