Shake's Frozen Custard facts for kids
Shake's Frozen Custard is a popular place that sells delicious frozen custard. It was started by Don and Debbie Osborne in Joplin, Missouri, back in 1991. When it first opened, it was called Shakey's Frozen Custard. But in 2001, they changed the name to Shake's. This was done to protect their name and brand, which is called a trademark.
Don and Debbie worked hard to create their special recipes. Don's oldest son, Corey Osborne, opened the second Shake's location in Fayetteville, Arkansas, in 1997. Shake's is known for many tasty treats, including:
- Concretes (thick mixes of custard and toppings)
- Sundaes (custard with sauces and toppings)
- Shakes (blended custard drinks)
- Floats (custard with soda)
- Splits (like banana splits)
Shake's Growth: Becoming a Franchise
In 1999, Shake's Frozen Custard started to grow even more. They began offering "franchises." A franchise means that other people can open their own Shake's stores. They use the Shake's name, recipes, and business plan. This helps the company grow faster.
Shake's became an official business in Arkansas as Shake's Frozen Custard, Inc. Today, there are almost 50 Shake's stores open. You can find them in nine different states across the country. Many more new locations are planned for the future!
