Shake's Frozen Custard facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Shake's Frozen Custard is a popular shop that sells a creamy, frozen dessert called frozen custard. The company was started by Don and Debbie Osborne in Joplin, Missouri, back in 1991.

When it first opened, the shop was called Shakey's Frozen Custard. However, in 2001, the name was changed to Shake's. This was done to get a trademark, which is a way to legally protect a brand's name so no one else can use it.

The Osbornes worked hard to create their special recipe. They tried many different ingredients and menu items to make their custard perfect. Some of the most popular treats at Shake's are concretes (very thick milkshakes), sundaes, regular shakes, and floats.

The Story of Shake's

The first Shake's shop was a big hit. In 1997, Don's oldest son, Corey Osborne, opened the second Shake's location in Fayetteville, Arkansas. This was the first step in the company's growth.

Becoming a Franchise

In 1999, the company decided to start offering franchises. A franchise is when a business allows other people to open their own store using the same name, recipes, and business plan. To do this, the company officially became Shake's Frozen Custard, Inc. in Arkansas.

Today, the Shake's franchise has grown a lot. There are nearly fifty stores open in nine different states across the country.
