Her Early Life and Sports
Shakiah was born in Wollongong, Australia. She is from an Indigenous Australian background.
Growing up, Shakiah was a talented soccer player. She played in the top-level team from age 14. She often won awards for being the best goal scorer. Her soccer team was very successful. They won many State Cup Championships.
In 2016, Shakiah won a special award. It was called the Kyah Simon Player of the Tournament Medal. She won this at the National Indigenous Soccer Championships. After a great soccer career, she switched to playing rugby league in 2017.
Starting Her Rugby League Journey
2018 Season Highlights
In June 2018, Shakiah played for the Avondale Greyhounds. This was in the Illawarra Rugby League. She also represented NSW Country at the Women's National Championships. On 26 July, she signed with the St. George Illawarra Dragons NRL Women's Premiership team.
Shakiah made her first game (debut) for the Dragons in Round 1. This was during the 2018 NRL Women's season. She scored one try and kicked three goals that season. She was the Dragons' top point scorer.
On 6 October, Shakiah played for the Prime Minister's XIII team. She scored three tries and kicked three goals. Her team won 40–4 against Papua New Guinea.
2019 Season Achievements
On 15 February 2019, Shakiah played for the Indigenous All Stars. She scored a try in their game against the Māori All Stars.
In May, she again played for NSW Country. This was at the Women's National Championships. On 21 June, Shakiah made her State of Origin debut. She played for New South Wales. She scored a try in their 14–4 win over Queensland.
On 6 October, Shakiah played as a winger in the NRLW Grand Final. Her Dragons team lost to the Broncos. In October, she represented Australia at the 2019 Rugby League World Cup 9s.
On 25 October, Shakiah played her first Test match for Australia. This is a game between national teams. She scored a try and kicked three goals. Australia won 8–28 against New Zealand.
2020 Season Challenges
On 22 February 2020, Shakiah played as a fullback for the Indigenous All Stars. Her team won 10–4 against the Māori All Stars. She hurt her shoulder during this game.
In Round 1 of the 2020 NRL Women's season, Shakiah played for the Dragons. She started as a five-eighth. She injured her shoulder again during this game. This injury meant she could not play for the rest of the season.
