Early Life and Acting Start
Shanika Warren-Markland grew up in Surrey, England. She went to St. Mary's Catholic School in South London. When she was thirteen, she joined a Youth Theatre group at the Royal National Theatre. Here, she learned how to read and understand scripts better. Later, Warren-Markland also became part of the Young Blood Theatre in West London.
Acting Career Highlights
Warren-Markland started her acting career on television. She played the main character, Lillie, in the Channel 4 show More Than Love. When she was just sixteen, she got roles in popular BBC shows like Holby City and Spooks. An agency called BWH signed her after seeing her at her Young Blood theatre classes.
Her first movie role was playing Kayla in the drama ‘Adulthood’. This film was directed by Noel Clarke, who has won a BAFTA award. She continued working with Noel Clarke and took on a co-lead role in the movie 4.3.2.1., where she played Kerrys.
Warren-Markland also acted as Ashleigh in the British horror film ‘Demons Never Die’. She played Langston in the American movie ‘The Skinny’. In June 2012, she appeared as Charmaine in the British thriller ‘Victim’.
In 2014, the movie Gone Too Far!, where Warren-Markland played Armani, was shown at the Toronto Film Festival. More recently, in June 2022, a play she wrote called Barbie Comes to Tea was performed by the Talawa Theatre Company.
